What a gift Let’s Get Lost has been. It sat on my Edelweiss shelf, almost unassuming, as if it didn’t want to take up too much space (humanizing books, now? Why, yes), and it caught my eye because of the promise in the title. Let’s Get Lost, it said—neither in the neighborhood nor after making a wrong turn, but truly lost.

Part travel book but mostly photography guide, this collects some truly wonderful snapshots of some truly admirable places, while the photographers themselves talk us through the getting of them – the guides, the trips needed, the accommodations – and what being in the right places to get the right rare image means to them. Visually, angels seem to dash from Patagonian peak to Patagonian peak, dropping just the right amount of dawn sun on specific mountaintops, elk claim Californian valleys for themselves, and a monument to Communism swaddles itself in protective snow. The whole has a lot of appeal to make you want to follow in their footsteps – and some technical nous to get close to mimicking their output – yet more than enough to put you off the demands of such remoteness. It's very good to stay at home with, instead, then – four and a half stars.

‘Wow’ I think would be the most accurate word to describe this book. The photographs are absolutely stunning and as the title might suggest you definitely do get lost in them!

‘Let’s Get Lost’ is primarily a photography book of remote and extraordinary landscapes split into sections; Mountains, Wilderness, Coast, Ice and Snow, Lakes and Rivers, and Forests. Alongside the photos is information about each place and the adventures involved in getting the photographs. I especially appreciated the author adding sections titled ‘Behind the Lens’ when more technical information or hints and tips about photography were given. Overall though it really is the photography that makes this book so very special! The landscapes covered are very varied and include Scotland, Namibia, Chile, Russia and the USA just to name a few. It is definitely a book you can dip in and out of or in my case read straight through then return to page one to begin again. Wonderful and awe inspiring!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Wow! Totally stunning photography matched with just enough description to give you a tantalising insight about each location.
From spellbinding snow and mountains, magically illuminated by nature to wild, rustic moorlands and majestic, trees whose branches twist into veiled misty forests. This book transported me to places I’ll probably not have the opportunity to see first hand but also whetted my appetite for inspiring travel ideas. It also strongly reinforced to me, how precious, unique and wondrous our natural world is.

This title will be welcomed by those who have wanderlust, even if they are not currently traveling. Organized by sections on Mountains, Wilderness, Coast, Ice & Snow, Lakes & Rivers, and Forests, it is filled with spectacular photographs and essays. I especially enjoyed the “Behind the Lens” sections in which the artists explain something about their craft.

As one example, I read the essay on the Cape Wrath Trail that takes Richard Gaston on a long (!) hike through northernmost Scotland. I felt his experience viscerally as, at moments, the rain poured down. The accompanying photos gave a good sense of place. This is true for all of the landscapes featured here.

For armchair adventurers who enjoy spending time in less usual places, this book could make a welcome gift. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this title. All opinions are my own.

After two years of pandemic lockdowns and travel restrictions, the desire to see something new is becoming overwhelming. Let's Get Lost by Finn Beales is an attempt to soothe those pangs, offering us an escape from the mundane. Finn Beales is a photographer and director who published The Photography Storytelling Workshop last year, a reference book aiming to help photographers move from taking a picture to telling a story. In Let's Get Lost, Beales puts his money where his mouth is, collecting some of the most sought-after landscapes with a collection of photography and storytelling. The book focuses on a wide variety of remote locations of which most people could never hope to visit more than one or two in a lifetime. As such, the book offers an escape rather than motivation, allowing the reader to relax into the landscapes accompanied by the photographer's stories of what they experienced while there. This combination is compelling.

The book is broken down into four sections: mountains, wilderness, coast, ice & snow, lakes & rivers and forests. Each section has a broad range of locations and photographers. They have clearly been chosen with great care: there is never a feeling of "oh, another lake". Each location within these sections features a specific photographer with travel details and their recollections of taking the photographs. This means that the content varies quite dramatically from page to page, ranging from Richard Gaston justifying his decision to take on the most challenging of Scotland's trails after the first lockdown came to an end to Finn Beales amazing encounters with gorillas in Rwanda to Mads Peter Iversen waiting six months for fog to be forecast for a photoshoot of a fairytale forest in Denmark.

I expected to love it for the photography but actually, it was the photographers' recollections that had me mesmerized. As each location is off the beaten track, the stories all have a sense of adventure to them and the story-behind-the-photograph format felt cohesive while letting each photographer's voice shine through, like a collection of love letters to the most beautiful locations on Earth. Each collection also includes "Behind the Lens", a specific piece of practical advice from the photographer. This is a book that deserves to be on your coffee table in large hardcover format so that it can be enjoyed slowly and in full resolution.

We live in an age of swipe right, quick thumbs up and move on, often finding ourselves caught in a state of "doom scrolling" where we aren't even really SEEING any of the images on our social media account. We've become so removed from the natural world. To make things worse its impossible to deny that the current state of our society is growing uglier by the day. Crime rates are rising, people are fighting, towns are too poor to fix pot holes or keep up with any sort of landscaping. It is so easy to fall into the belief that the entire world is this way; I know personally I am guilty of this. I often feel restless and uninspired and disappointed in what I see out my window.

Let's Get Lost is a much needed wake up call. It's an invitation to power down and really take in some of the most beautiful spots in the world. Mountains with peaks that glow red and pink at dawn, untouched shores and rivers and paths, forests that beg to be wandered in to. Many of these places are untouched to at least some degree by humans so the natural world is left to really thrive and develop a sense of beauty and wonder that takes your breath away. I had never even heard of many of these places, but I found myself going through my e-copy several times over, lingering a little more on each photo every time I returned to it. This is certainly NOT a read once and never touch again book; That would be near impossible.

So power down for a little while, turn off the news and open this book. Dare to be inspired and Awe'd, to expand your mind and perception of yourself and of life itself.

I received an e-copy from Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. I can honestly say that the e-book blew me away but I truly feel the need to go out and purchase a physical copy to I can fully experience the weight of the impact between these pages.

What a fabulous treat this collection of essays and corresponding photographs is! Every single photograph is absolutely breathtaking, including those in the Contents and Introduction. The focus is isolated spots where most travelers do not go or have even heard of. Not only that but the various photographers (biorgraphies in the back) include tips in taking the ultimate pictures, 200 of which are shown here. As a traveler and (very) amateur photographer I have experienced many pinch-me moments including some in this book and am always blown away by the wonders of nature. This is not a book you read just once as there are nuances you may have missed. This happened to me so I went through it with a fine-toothed comb again and ruminated. The lighting, depth, seasonality, colours and minute details are so striking and in some cases other worldly. Photographers surely must often be contortionists!

My mind was enchanted, captured and challenged by the craggy grandeur of the Dolomites in Italy, the evocative Cape Wrath Trail in Scotland, Patagonian glacial lakes, Puya Raimondii trees in Peru, croft houses on Fair Isle, Balkan Mountains monuments and St. Mary's Vale in Wales and so many more.

Mushroom foraging, chatting with villagers, braving challenging journeys on the sea, picking partridgeberries and cooking under the stars are all parts of travel, often amongst the most memorable.

Whether you are a traveler or not, if you have even one iota of interest in our beautiful world, this book is for you. Let go, enjoy and immerse yourself. If these photographs don't inspire, nothing will.

My sincere thank you to Quarto Publishing Group - White Lion and NetGalley for the privilege of reading the essays and gazing upon sublime and inspirational photography.

Wow if you want to get lost in a book this is the one to do it in. The photograph in this stunning and breath taking. The pictures are so detailed and well framed that they will captivate you and give you a sense that you are there looking at them with your own eyes. You experience the power that they give off. For those of you like me who can't afford to travel to this places you can experience them from the comfort of your own home. Sitting next to a cosy fire on a frosty night reading this book it just can't be beaten. The layout is wonderful and breath taking. The information within each collection is fantastic letting you experience and learn things about these unforgettable and sometimes very hard to reach corners of the world. I often lost track of time while engrossed in the magical wonder of this book. This is a perfect book for anyones collection suitable for the whole familys taste. It is also great for those budding amateur photographers which handy hits on how to shoot these pictures yourself. So perfect for photographers across the globe. I love that this book was grouped into sections like forests, rivers, ice etc. Also there are many different photographers participating in this book so plenty of varied styles to enjoy and learn from.
I truly thank the author, photographers and publishers for creating this stunning and varied collection of wonderful places to get lost in that can be enjoyed by all.
I can't wait to see and read more books by this author and photographers.

Let's Get Lost: the world's most stunning remote locations absolutely blew me away!!! While I love the genre of art/photography and travel books in general, this one is exceptional. The stunning photographs of a wide variety of remote places all across the globe are spellbinding. They are accompanied by commentary from the photographer who took the specific photograph, giving readers glimpses of conditions in the area, what they had to do to "get the shot", and even "Behind the Lens" information as to specific tips.

I couldn't stop turning the pages of this book, or exclaiming aloud with delight and wonder as my eyes took in sights I would never have seen otherwise. Some of the photographs are magnificent, others ethereal in nature. This would make a wonderful gift for yourself or others, as you'll want to look at this book again and again to recapture the feelings of calm, joy, wonder, and awe that it generates!

My thanks to the intrepid and adventurous photographers for sharing their talents with us, and to NetGalley and to White Lion Publishing for allowing me to review an ARC of this book which is scheduled for publication 11/2/21. All opinions expressed in this review are my own, and are given freely.

"Let's get lost" is a feast for the eyes. It's filled with stunning photography that instantly transports you to the locations it showcases.
The book is set out by theme- mountains, wilderness, coast, ice and snow, lakes and rivers, and my favourite -forests.
I would the introduction really interesting with the idea that with all the social media and technology we have at our fingertips, its difficult to get truly lost these days.
Within each section there's an array of beautiful photos, from all over the world including the Lost Coast of California, Norway, Indonesia, Wales and Zambia. Each location comes with coordinates of the photographs and a wealth of information about the site. You are guaranteed to learn something new - who knew that one elephant has the capacity to plant 300 trees a day? There's also technical tips to improve your photography too and a small biography of each photographer at the back.
It truly is a wonderful collection of photos, perfect for the coffee table of anyone with wonderlust. Prepare to lose hours as you escape into each and every photograph.

Beautiful photography book of remote places. Different sections include; Mountains, Wilderness, Coast, Ice & Snow, Lakes & Rivers and Forests. Thirty locations are highlighted with multiple photos of each area. Ten places include the photos of Finn Beales who is credited with curating the book. Another 21 photographers works are included. Each location includes the photos, geographic coordinates, and impressions from the photographer. I enjoyed the photo hints by the professionals like best time to shot, or if something is very remote look at other photos of the place and think how you can enhance upon it or add your mark to the photo (not reshooting the same shot). I must be more of a city girl because of the locations I've only been to three all of which were in the US. It is a lovely coffee table book or gift for the photographer in your life. Thank you to Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group-White Lion for the temporary eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is a spectacular compilation of nature photographs taken by a group of well-known photographers. It's the book to get lost in, as the title suggests, during the pandemic when traveling was postponed for so many of us. The photographs are crisp and clear, perfect to satisfy the curiosity of anyone looking for ideas for their next great adventure. Interesting facts and information accompany every page. One thing I found intriguing while flipping through the pages were the photography tips and tricks including how to take photos of wildlife, apps to aid your position and timing, technical tips, and much more. The "behind the lens" sections are a true inspiration even for amateur photographers looking for the perfect shot.

A beautiful book of stunning photographs of remote locations but not inaccessible, split into themes including Mountains and Rivers. The pictures are as breathtaking and as interesting as you might expect, I like the mix of themes from desert to jungle to glacier to forest. I also loved the helpful tips that the photographers shared, both in how to plan trips to take pictures in these types of places and also how to use your camera to get the best shot. What is very clear is that our planet is quite beautiful and I hope this book reminds people of this and encourages more respect of its resources and not further destruction.

Let's Get Lost: the world's most stunning remote locations, by Finn Beales, is an attractive coffee table book, an interesting travel book, and a book of tips for taking better photographs.

I came to this book like I do most larger books that are mostly graphics, for the pictures and maybe some interesting information. I got so much more. The photographs are phenomenal, the information about locations and shooting conditions was engrossing, and to top it off the tips for taking such photographs was useful even if the location is my back yard (okay, maybe a nearby park or reserve).

Because of all this book offers I think just about anyone who appreciates photography and/or travel will enjoy it.

A great book for those sick of having their travel plans hampered by the pandemic. Travel to far-flung reaches around the globe and travel from your couch through the lens of a myriad of talent photojournalists who describe some of nature's most spectacular sights. Breath-taking photographs capture the imagination and take you to foreign lands. Informative blurbs accompany images to help transport you there. Could have classroom potential when talking about different climates and/or biomes or if students are looking for inspiration for an artwork or story. This tome could also make a great conversation starter as a coffee table book.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing/White Lion for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is a fantastic reminder of how beautiful the world is. I enjoyed the tips from all the different photographers. There are many many remote and beautiful places in the work. This is heavy on the US and Europe. I did love seeing Patagonia. Not one photograph from Australia. It would have been nice to see all the continents represented. None the less, this is a beautiful book and many of the places are very accessible. It is a reminder to leave the house,,,take a drive and see what you can see. 4 stars.

I received a copy of this book through the Amazon Vine program in exchange for an honest review.

This book is around 3.5 stars for me because while the pictures in this book are beautiful, I was expecting more of them. The book is organized by typography - mountains, rivers, etc. instead of country or climate. There are beautiful pictures with information on the photographers and the locations. There's also tips on taking your own photos. Africa as a continent is underrepresented which surprised me.

Absolutely beautiful. A cohesive collection of photographs for each location, accompanied by storytelling from the photographer. "Let's Get Lost" has more text than I was expecting and is all the better for it. There is abundant context on the journey to each location that adds great depth to the experience. The "behind the lens" section featuring the photography details was also very interesting to see and would be a great reference for interested landscape photographers.

Thank you to NetGalley & and the publisher for providing an eARC for review.

This book is a breathtaking, beautiful, and stunning photo diary. I appreciated the stories of the photographers as they journeyed to these far reached places. The little details and encounters were fun to read about. I also appreciated the extra tips they gave on how they catch some of their beautiful shots and their advice for other photographers heading to similar locations to get the best shot. This would be a beautiful keepsake and coffee table book, anyone could pick it up and enjoy reading it!

What a delightful book. Perfect for the coffee table, it’s so easy to pick up and flick through. Every photograph is a stunner and the articles are interesting too. I particularly loved the section on Lake Louise, a location I have been fortunate enough to visit myself. Really worth buying this one for anyone who loves photography.

Enjoyed the book. A nice change for me from my typical non fiction historical reads. I have started to scribble down notes when I come across a passage I feel especially noteworthy as I read through books. I also jotted notes from "Lets Get Lost" but also did many small sketches from some fantastic photos from the book.
