In his briefing to advertising agency Chiat/Day for the legendary 1984 Macintosh launch, Steve Jobs told his team, “I want something that will stop people in their tracks. I want a thunderclap.” Whether you are a marketer launching a new product, a start-up seeking funding, a non-profit looking for donations, a politician running for office, or a speaker wooing an audience, you, too, need to stop people in their tracks. In today’s overwhelmed, overcrowded world filled with endless, ear-splitting sales pitches, you swim upstream to be heard. Have you ever… A magical mashup of the metaphor and the story,Tiny Thunder is a revolutionary communication technique that ensures no one will ever forget you or your message In a world exhausted and jaded by the “same old same old”, this groundbreaking book shows you how you can present your ideas in a fresh, irresistible, and authentic way. Inside, you will learn… You will also be You deserve to be heard, understood, and remembered.
The first half of this book had nothing to do with messaging. It was a summary (and rant) about how technology has changed the world. There are better books on that. Eventually, we got to the messaging info (all of the other stuff was a long intro to say that we really need to get people's attention now more than ever).
And the messaging stuff was basic. Not wrong, but not unique or especially detailed. This felt like an article that had stuff added to make a book (and it's still a very short book).
Wow what a breath of fresh air. As someone who writes for a living, I'm always on the lookout for new ideas and inspiration. Tiny Thunder is exactly what I hoped it would be: a wonderful guide and delightful read. Sue talks about the power of metaphor in a fresh and authentic way. I'm excited to try and recreate some of her ideas in my next marketing project. Can't recommend enough!
In this digital world in which we are being forced to exist in, it is people like this author who is reminding us we are real. Analog. We need to have compassion and communicate accordingly.
