I recalled reading this "book" many, many years ago. This is literally a pamphlet length tale with some funny anecdotes. Clever, cute, glad I found it again but seriously not much going on. Seems like one of those things that should just be on the internet for free by now.

This book about the best privy builder of the county is a satire on specialization, design and usability, written at the time when the craftsman was replaced by the specialist, and experience by scientific studies, and it is written in a naive tone that makes it enjoyable to read. In addition, if you ever need to build a good privy, there is some good advice in the book.

I grew-up on a farm in Central Africa and first read this treatise before WW2; in those parts nearly all farmers had similar latrine arrangements, certainly for the menfolk. They were known universally as "PKs" (picinni kia) One of the best I rember was in the Eastern Districts on the edge of a kopje with fantastic views across the plain below; it was situated some distance from the homestead and had no door; a flag could be raised to shew cccupation and possesioin. The book gave me an insight into a rural America that, sadly, is no longer the norm.
I also grew up with Huckleberry Finn!!

My grandfather had this book and I read it when I was growing up. We lived on a farm in Oklahoma with no electricity and an outhouse. It is a must book for anyone who ever had to use an outhouse. If you are a collector of outhouse material your collection is not complete if you don't own this book.

This a book I grew up with. So many laughs and Chic's BEST book of all time. Sit back and read of a slower time in life. When necessity calls it is a good thing you called in the "specialist". When your sitting doing a true human function, it is nice you picked the right builder. Down home humor at it's BEST.
