- Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThere's a huge tendency when building something to put your head down and keep grinding it out, hoping that "if you build it, they will come." This book is a much-needed reminder that you need to have systems (or a team in place) to start building an audience or connecting with people WHILE building.
Like all books, there's a difference between learning and doing. If you're an experienced marketer, you may not find earth-shattering new information or tips and tricks. However, it's a good overview for the "reps" you're going to be putting in on a daily basis to really get your products and services out there in a big way.
"Founder Brand" is a solid book and an enjoyable read.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseDave is crystal clear and practical with his writing and recommendations. His pen is honed from experience, and succinct.
For each step - it’s - here is why you should do this, here is the technique, the software or the app, the expected results, an example, etc.
I found his practical approach powerful, using exact names and references. I set up my founder’s twitter and podcast using transistor FM while reading this book!

- Reviewed in the United States on June 1, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI've been a startup founder that have never liked the idea of posting on social. I thought it was a waste of time and effort: An enslaving work that wouldn't work unless I was all in, and would jeopardize my startup's success (as every second matters).
Fast forward 7 years and 5 failed companies, I've admitted defeat. Yes garyvee, you were right, attention is today's biggest currency. And social is the way today for you to drive sakes, get customers and build relationships.
Failing to be in social is a founder's biggest demise. Why? Because, " A startup's biggest enemy isn't competition, but obscurity" - Alexis Ohanian
No one knows who you are and why and what you do. The only way for people to find it out AND care is to put yourself out there.
While that sounds good on paper, I also had my doubts about the type of content to create and how would I get started. Even though I started doing some sporadic content, I felt that I was out of place.
This book helped me fill that gap. It gave me the questions that I felt I was missing to create the unique and different content that I needed to do.
I haven't started applying it yet, but will do so as I finish writing this review.
Any startup founder should definitely look into it. Even if you're in tech and want to cross the unicorn status.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis book fundamentally transformed my approach to launching my new brand. Dave breaks down each step and expresses his thoughts in plain English, not in professorial language, and he does it in a way that feels both informative and approachable for anyone seeking to build a brand. Thank you Dave, and congratulations on getting this done!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWhat, you may ask, is a founder brand?
A founder brand? A brand
based upon the story of the
founder, and then sharing
the story and the villain? A
brand that solves your needs,
but also gives you a human
connection with a founder?
Gong's CEO points to this playbook as revolutionizing his company's growth. There is a Harvard case study about this exact story: Gong Resonating Conversational Insights. Andy Raskin builds strategic narratives for companies, and I believe Gong was one he worked with. Christopher Lochhead and the Category Pirates are way ahead on this thinking in their many eBooks shredding the most common marketing sacred cows.
Finding difference and distinctiveness makes our jobs as marketers easier and the founder brand playbook is one you need to be aware of. To put this another way, how do you stand out in a sea of 500 competitors who offer the same type of product in the market?
The Founder Brand might be the answer you're looking for.

Founders have a unique opportunity to use social media and podcasting to communicate with their market, and this book will tell you exactly how to do that. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars DG is the OG.
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseDG has had lasting effect on me as a marketer. I can't thank him enough for the much needed focus he brings on to everything brand.
The way he had built his own brands and for the founders he has worked with, he doesn't need this review or testimonials. But as DC and DG used to say on Seeking Wisdom.
6 Stars Only.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brand marketing guide that is more than just theory
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseDave does an amazing job at breaking down the strategies and tactics to building a brand for yourself or your business. There are REAL examples that he pulls from his experience in building multiple brands (including his own) and ones that we see on a day to day basis.
I will be pulling this book off the shelf frequently to find inspiration and drive action in what I do day to day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Listen, this book is incredible, easy to read and written well.
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseI have been listening to Dave for a long time and o couldn’t wait to one read a book written by him. This is not a book just for founders - it’s a book for all including marketing leaders who want to see their organisations thrive and grow.
In fact, I hope more and more marketing leaders but this book and read it in order to help their founders and brand growth.
Personally, I’m on mission to get more friends to read and take all insights and grow their own founder brand. 👉👏
