A 🧵 on Salary Negotiation (new job)

👉🏾 Research salary ranges for your position & experience level at your target location.

👉🏾 Have a range in your mind. What's the minimum you can accept, what's the ideal number. Be realistic.

👉🏾 Negotiate between the time when you are offered the job but you haven't accepted. Don't negotiate after accepting the offer.

👉🏾Let the employer offer first.

👉🏾It's ok to go back n forth 2-3 times. Not just once and not 4 or more (with maybe a few exceptions)

👉🏾Be confident in asking but not arrogant. If asked, justify why based on your research.

👉🏾If you have competing offers, surface those.

👉🏾Look at total comp, not just 1 component. Consider other factors such as experience, growth/learning opportunities, benefits, location etc

👉🏾Don't nickel and dime.

👉🏾If you have to say no, give generic answer and be polite.
