Julian Simon's The Ultimate Resource is great on this. The only thing that's actually scarce is human time. With more time we can make more of any material thing. We're not running out of anything, we just have to economize & allocate our time.

If you think gold is capped by nature, you should read Julian Simon's The Ultimate Resource. If demand for it rose, then its price tends to rise, at which point suppliers find it more profitable to go to more extreme lengths to mine it etc
