Probably considered out of date and/or politically incorrect now, but Kenneth Clarke’s tv series Civilization was a wonderful way to learn about Western art. I recommend it.

Lord Kenneth Clark's 13-hour 1969 documentary "Civilisation" about European art from the Dark Ages to WWI pretty much invented the genre of the classy high-end PBS-style long documentary. It's on Youtube. I dunno if it's available in high-definition, though.
