Week 7 (MT). The Creation of the EU: theories of integration
We look at the role of economic integration for the ‘deepening’ of European integration in political terms – both as requirement and as a facilitator for this. We start with the economic theories of (European) integration, but subsequently focus on political theories (intergovernmentalism, neo-functionalism, federalism) as a means for explaining the trends (deepening) and patterns (economic versus political) of the European integration process.
