In 2013, Simon & Schuster published Girard's techno-thriller novel CAIN'S BLOOD and an accompanying companion novel for teens, PROJECT CAIN. The books are based on Girard's novella CAIN XP11, which was serialized in Apex Digest in 2007. Both CAIN'S BLOOD and PROJECT CAIN were shortlisted for the Bram Stoker Award, with PROJECT CAIN nominated for "Superior Achievement in a Young Adult Novel" in 2013.
