Last week I read @EricJorgenson new book: The Anthology of @balajis. It’s packed with wisdom on how to build a technology business, seek truth, understand the media, and where future innovations might take us. Here are my favorite ideas from the book:
1. Popularity ≠ truth If everyone around you is repeating some idea, they probably got it from the same source or small set of sources. More people repeating the same idea does not make it more true.
2. Technology’s ultimate goal is to reduce scarcity in the world. The source of all scarcity is mortality. So technology's ultimate goal should be ending mortality.
...
14. You can’t learn without practice. Reading and studying teach you very little on your own. You have to put the knowledge to work for it to stick.
There’s a ton more in the book. Definitely pick it up if you haven’t already.
And if you want more on any of these ideas, check out the Nat’s Notes episode on the book I just released!

For anyone curious, we used the method outlined in "The Happy Sleeper." It's like a gentler Ferber method. One of the few books I think every new parent needs to pick up. (H/t @fortelabs for the rec)

Interesting thread on birthrate decline, haven't seen this framing before

Tweet Feb 12, 2023
Birthrates are falling in the rich world and elsewhere. Women and men in these places on average want 2 children but have far fewer. Why? I think we’ve been missing something 🧵 twitter.com/Martha_Gill/status/1624696977437908993/photo/1

The whole Conflict & Suspense book is great. It's also where I found this guide to outlining a book:

Surprising & interesting thread on hurricanes 👇

I listened to two @nytimes The Daily podcasts on topics related to climate change and hurricanes this week. Both give the overwhelming impression that we have seen substantial increases in hurricane strength/frequency. That’s just not true.
