ALL THAT IS MINE I CARRY WITH ME, by William Landay: A wonderful, well-written novel that crackles with suspense. It's by the man who wrote DEFENDING JACOB, which I think you can still find as a limited series on Apple+. Both are worth your time.

BOYS IN THE VALLEY, by Philip Fracassi: An isolated orphanage is infested by demons. Old-school horror. I think there's a trade edition coming this summer, but there's a limited from Earthling Publications. Nice book. Check their website. Might still be 1 or 2 available.

CITY OF DREAMS, by Don Winslow: It's a crime classic. Winslow's best book, by far. You won't put it down. I think it's published next month.

AGE OF VICE, by Deepti Kapoor: Aspiring novelists should read this. The narrative is clean and lean, the story unputdownable. Every word counts. This is how it's done when it's done exactly right.

TO LESLIE: I loved this movie. Came out of nowhere and hit me dead in the heart. Andrea Riseborough is incandescent.

PICTURE IN THE SAND, by Peter Blauner: Excellent thriller set around the making on THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, written by a film and TV veteran (LAW & ORDER SVU, for one) who knows what he's talking about. I loved this book and think you will, too.

The best novel I read in 2022 was THE DELUGE, by Stephen Markley. It will be published on January 10 of this year. This is what the world is going to look like in the next 10 years, if changes aren't made. More terrifying than THE STAND. Because it's real.

It's a good show.

DESERT STAR is a terrific book. I read it and the world went away until I was done. Pure magic.

LOU (Netflix): Terrific action/suspense movie. Allison Janney and Jurnee Smollett are great together. And how cool to see a tough older woman kick some serious ass.
