Dr. Joseph Lazio is Chief Scientist of the Interplanetary Network Directorate at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology. The Interplanetary Network Directorate manages the Deep Space Network for NASA's Spacecraft Communications and Navigation (SCaN) Division. He received his Ph.D. from Cornell University, was a U.S. National Research Council Research Associate at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, and was a Radio Astronomer on the staff of the U.S. NRL, before joining JPL. He was the Deputy Principal Investigator for the proposed Dark Ages Radio Explorer (DARE).
