Terry Winograd

Creator of the SHRDLU program, which aimed to provide a computer with "understanding" of natural language. Implemented a simulated "world of toy blocks" where the program could understand and execute commands involving block manipulation. The program demonstrated the challenges of manually building a computer's semantic memory and its limitations.
