I just finished reading What We Owe the Future by @willmacaskill and would strongly recommend it both to people who haven't heard much about 'longtermism' and to people who know a lot and think they won't learn much new. You can buy it here:

I also want to recommend @EconTalker 's podcast. I decided to read this because I remembered enjoying an interview about it on the EconTalk podcast some time ago

I strongly recommend you buy and read her book (which sticks to fascinating histories of fabric, not techno-futurism).

I've been recommending "The Fabric of Civilization" by @vpostrel to basically anyone who will listen. It's an incredible read for anyone who cares about economies and cultures and how they change and grow...

This is a well-deserved test-of-time award. A quietly brilliant paper with an impact on how we think about deep learning that goes beyond the papers that cite it directly.

Having never met him, I am so thankful to have been able to read his work. Without Hot Air changed my life before I even got into ML, and now I rarely learn as much as I do when I reread his papers. Every time it makes me consider something differently.
