Ilan Strauss posted a superb tweet thread summarizing our papers on how big tech companies use their algorithms to control user attention for their own benefit, against the interests not only of their users but also of their ecosystems of product or content suppliers. We focus on #Amazon, but the overview paper highlights applications to search, social media, and generative #AI. If you don't have time to read the papers, following this thread will give you many of the key takeaways (and will hopefully whet your appetite for more!)

This is the most thought-provoking book I've read. It made me see the world in a new way. So much that has been ignored is brought to light here, in an eminently readable way. Highly recommended.

A Swim In A Pond In The Rain, by George Saunders. The best book on how to read carefully and think about what you read that I have ever encountered. Also introduced me to some wonderful deeply humane classics of Russian literature.

This is indeed a very good book about one of the most remarkable touchstone figures in the evolution of so much of modern culture. I've known @stewartbrand for decades, and still learned so much more about him and his leadership.

Great post by @mikeloukides. "We ask birds to be intelligent about things humans are intelligent about. We never ask humans to be intelligent about things birds are intelligent about." So too #AI.

This thread is so good, and illustrates why @culturaltutor is one of my favorite follows. I learn something random, wonderful, and thought provoking in each one.

Great, forward-looking post from @LauraABaldwin @oreillymedia about continued challenges for women in today’s workforce. One tidbit: "A four-day workweek complicates your business model without generating the solutions women need to be successful at work.”

If you want to read only one thread that outlines the core arguments of David Rosenthal’s critique of #web3, it should be this one. (Of course, do also read the transcript and look at the slides from Rosenthal’s brilliant talk, linked in the thread.
